Description

Crispy and flavorful blooming onions made easily in a baby air fryer. Perfect as an appetizer or snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large sweet onion
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Cut the top off the onion and peel. Make vertical cuts around the onion, leaving the base intact.
  2. Soak the onion in ice water for 30 minutes to help the petals open.
  3. In one bowl, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. In another bowl, whisk eggs and milk.
  4. Dip the onion first in the flour mix, then in the egg mix, and finally in the panko breadcrumbs.
  5. Place the onion in the baby air fryer basket and spray lightly with cooking oil.
  6. Cook at 375°F (190°C) for 10-12 minutes or until golden and crispy.
  7. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Use a sharp knife for clean cuts.
  • Chilling the onion helps the petals bloom better.
