Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 3 cups buttercream frosting
  • Black and orange gel food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Mix flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Add milk, oil, eggs, and vanilla. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in boiling water. Batter will be thin.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes.
  6. Let cakes cool completely. Level the tops if needed.
  7. Divide buttercream into three bowls. Color one black, one orange, and leave one white.
  8. Frost the cake with a crumb coat using white buttercream. Chill for 15 minutes.
  9. Pipe irregular cheetah spots with black buttercream. Fill spots with orange buttercream.
  10. Add heart decorations using remaining frosting. Serve and enjoy.
