Description

A hearty mac and cheese meatloaf casserole combining two comfort food classics. Layers of cheesy macaroni and seasoned meatloaf bake together for a filling family meal.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 8 oz elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, 1/2 cup milk, and Worcestershire sauce for meatloaf.
  3. Press meat mixture into greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  4. Cook macaroni according to package directions.
  5. Melt butter, whisk in flour, then gradually add 2 cups milk to make cheese sauce.
  6. Stir in 1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese until melted.
  7. Combine cooked macaroni with cheese sauce.
  8. Spread mac and cheese over meatloaf layer.
  9. Sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup cheese on top.
  10. Bake 30 minutes until bubbly.

Notes

  • Let stand 5 minutes before serving.
  • Ground turkey works instead of beef.
  • Add diced onions to meatloaf if desired.
